Chapter 34
नित्यं शमपरा ये च तथा ये चानसूयका: । नित्यस्वाध्यायिनो ये च दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते
nityaṁ śamaparā ye ca tathā ye cānāsūyakāḥ | nityasvādhyāyino ye ca durgāṇy atitaranti te ||
ନାରଦ କହିଲେ—ଯେମାନେ ସଦା ଶମରେ (ମନୋନିଗ୍ରହରେ) ନିବିଷ୍ଟ, ଯେମାନେ ଦୋଷଦୃଷ୍ଟି ଓ ଈର୍ଷ୍ୟାରହିତ, ଏବଂ ଯେମାନେ ନିତ୍ୟ ସ୍ୱାଧ୍ୟାୟ କରନ୍ତି—ସେମାନେ କଠିନ ସଙ୍କଟକୁ ଅତିକ୍ରମ କରନ୍ତି।
नारद उवाच
Cultivate steady mental calm (śama), avoid fault-finding and envy (anāsūyā), and maintain daily sacred study (svādhyāya); these disciplines enable a person to overcome dangers and crises.
Nārada is instructing by listing the qualities of people who successfully pass through adversity, emphasizing inner discipline and ethical speech/attitude rather than external power.
