Aṣṭāvakra’s Visit to Kubera: Hospitality, Temptation, and the Ethics of Restraint (अष्टावक्र-वैश्रवणोपाख्यानम्)
tulyaṃ mama sahasraṃ tu sutānāṃ brahmavādinām | āyuś caiva saputrasya saṃvatsaraśatāyutam ||
The verse highlights the traditional linkage between tapas/devotion and the granting of boons, while valuing ‘brahma-vāda’—commitment to sacred knowledge and disciplined conduct—as the highest form of prosperity.
Garga is describing the extraordinary blessings he has received: a thousand sons who are brahma-vādins like himself, and an immense, divinely allotted lifespan shared with his progeny.
