Chapter 185 — नवमीव्रतानि (The Observances for Navamī)
ଭଗବାନ୍ ଅଗ୍ନି ବସିଷ୍ଠଙ୍କୁ ଗୌରୀ/ଦୁର୍ଗାସମ୍ବନ୍ଧୀୟ ନବମୀ-ବ୍ରତ ଶିଖାଇ ଭୁକ୍ତି ଓ ମୁକ୍ତି—ଦୁହିଁ ପ୍ରକାର ସିଦ୍ଧିର ସ୍ପଷ୍ଟ ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞା କରନ୍ତି। ନବମୀକୁ ‘ପିଷ୍ଟକା’ ବୋଲି ଚିହ୍ନଟ କରାଯାଇଛି; ଆଶ୍ୱିନ ଶୁକ୍ଳ ନବମୀର ନିଖୁତ କାଳନିର୍ଣ୍ଣୟ, ନକ୍ଷତ୍ର ନିୟମ ଏବଂ ଦେବୀପୂଜା ପରେ ପିଠା/ପିଷ୍ଟ ଭୋଜନବିଧି ଉଲ୍ଲେଖ ଅଛି। ପରେ ମହିଷମର୍ଦ୍ଦିନୀ ଦୁର୍ଗାକୁ କେନ୍ଦ୍ର କରି ରାଜରକ୍ଷା ଲିତୁର୍ଜି—ଦେବୀକୁ ନଅ ସ୍ଥାନରେ କିମ୍ବା ଏକ ମନ୍ଦିରରେ ଅଧିଷ୍ଠିତ ଭାବି, ବହୁଭୁଜ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିକୁ ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ଆୟୁଧ-ଉପକରଣ ସହ ଧ୍ୟାନ କରିବା। ଦଶାକ୍ଷରୀ ଦୁର୍ଗାରକ୍ଷାମନ୍ତ୍ର, ଅନ୍ୟ ମନ୍ତ୍ର, ଅଙ୍ଗୁଠାରୁ କନିଷ୍ଠା ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ନ୍ୟାସ, ଗୋପନୀୟତା ଓ ଅବିଘ୍ନ ସାଧନା ଉପରେ ଜୋର ଅଛି। ଆୟୁଧପୂଜା, ଉଗ୍ର ଦେବୀନାମ, ଦିଗ୍ବଳି (କିଛି ପାଠରେ ରକ୍ତ/ମାଂସ), ପିଷ୍ଟର ଶତ୍ରୁ-ପ୍ରତିମାକୁ ନିଷ୍ପ୍ରଭ କରିବା, ରାତିରେ ମାତୃକା ଓ ଉଗ୍ରରୂପ ପୂଜା, ପଞ୍ଚାମୃତ ସ୍ନାନ, ବଳି ଏବଂ ଧ୍ୱଜ-ସ୍ଥାପନ/ରଥଯାତ୍ରା—ଭକ୍ତି, ପ୍ରତିମାଧ୍ୟାନ ଓ ରାଜଧର୍ମରକ୍ଷାକୁ ଏକତ୍ର କରେ।

The chapter gives a ten-syllabled protective mantra: “Oṃ, O Durgā, O Durgā, protect (me)! Svāhā,” used as a rakṣā (protection) formula within the Navamī observance.
