Adhyaya 22 — Kuvalayashva’s Death through Daitya-Deceit and Madalasa’s Self-Immolation
किंनु शोचामि तनयं किंनु शोचाम्यहं स्नुषाम् ।
विमृश्य कृतकृत्यत्वाम्नम्येऽशोच्यावुभावपि ॥
kinnu śocāmi tanayaṃ kinnu śocāmy ahaṃ snuṣām /
vimṛśya kṛtakṛtyatvām namye 'śocyāv ubhāv api
“ငါသည် မည်သူ့အတွက် ဝမ်းနည်းရမည်နည်း—ငါ့သားလား၊ သမီးမက်လား? ဆင်ခြင်ပြီးနောက် သစ္စာတရားကို ဦးညွှတ်၏; နှစ်ဦးစလုံးသည် လုပ်ဆောင်ရန်ရှိသမျှကို ပြီးမြောက်ခဲ့သဖြင့် ဝမ်းနည်းရန်မဟုတ်” ဟုဆို၏။

Death is not automatically a cause for debilitating grief when a life has been lived in dharma. The ‘kṛtakṛtya’ standard reframes mourning into reverence and acceptance.

Calling them ‘aśocya’ echoes the Gītā-like insight: the wise do not collapse over inevitable transitions. It points to stabilizing buddhi in the face of saṃsāra’s churn.
