वह लोगोंसे कहे--'सज्जनो! अपने देशपर यह बहुत बड़ी आपत्ति आ पहुँची है। शत्रुदलके आक्रमणका महान् भय उपस्थित है। जैसे बाँसमें फलका लगना बाँसके विनाशका ही कारण होता है, उसी प्रकार मेरे शत्रु बहुत-से लुटेरोंको साथ लेकर अपने ही विनाशके लिये उठकर मेरे इस राष्ट्रको सताना चाहते हैं ।।
bhīṣma uvāca | asyām āpadi ghorāyāṃ samprāpte dāruṇe bhaye | paritrāṇāya bhavataḥ prārthayiṣye dhanāni vaḥ ||
ဘိဿမက ပြောသည်— «ယခု ဤကြောက်မက်ဖွယ် အပတ်အတန်ကြီးသည် ငါတို့အပေါ် ကျရောက်လာပြီး ကြမ်းတမ်းသော ကြောက်ရွံ့မှုလည်း ပေါ်ပေါက်လာပြီ။ ထို့ကြောင့် ငါသည် သင်တို့ထံမှ ဥစ္စာကို တောင်းခံသည်—ငါ့အပျော်အပါးအတွက် မဟုတ်၊ သင်တို့အားလုံးကို ကာကွယ်ရန်အတွက် ဖြစ်သည်။ ဤကဲ့သို့သော အရေးပေါ်ကာလတွင် အများပြည်သူကာကွယ်ရေးအတွက် အရင်းအမြစ်များကို စုပေါင်းပေးခြင်းသည် ဓမ္မတရားအရ တာဝန်တစ်ရပ်ဖြစ်၏။ ပြည်သူတို့၏ လုံခြုံရေးနှင့် နိုင်ငံတော်၏ တည်တံ့မှုသည် အချိန်မီ စုပေါင်းထောက်ပံ့မှုအပေါ် မူတည်နေသည်။»
