जब कर्णका वध हो गया, तब आपके किसी भी योद्धाका मन कदापि जल्दी पराक्रम दिखानेमें नहीं लगा और न सेनाको संगठित रखनेकी ओर ही किसीका ध्यान गया ।।

vaṇijo nāvi bhinnāyām agādhe viplave yathā |
apāre pāram icchanto hate dvīpe kirīṭinā ||
karṇe hate tadā rājan na kaścid yuyudhe tava |
na ca senāṃ samādhātuṃ matir āsīt kathaṃcana ||
သဉ္ဇယက ပြောသည်—အို မဟာရာဇာ၊ ကာဏ္ဏ သတ်ဖြတ်ခံရသောအခါ သင်၏စစ်သူရဲတို့အနက် မည်သူမျှ လျင်မြန်သော သတ္တိဗလကို ပြရန် စိတ်မတက်ကြွခဲ့၊ စစ်တပ်ကို စည်းကမ်းတကျ ထိန်းသိမ်းရန်လည်း မည်သူမျှ အာရုံမစိုက်ခဲ့။ အနက်မရှိသကဲ့သို့ အဆုံးမရှိသော ပင်လယ်ကြီး၌ မုန်တိုင်းထန်လာ၍ သင်္ဘောကွဲပျက်သွားသောအခါ ကမ်းတစ်ဖက်သို့ ကူးလိုသော ကုန်သည်တို့ အကူအညီမဲ့၍ ရှုပ်ထွေးသွားသကဲ့သို့၊ မကွယ်မရှောင် အာရ်ဂျုန (ခေါင်းပေါ်မကွတ်ဆောင်းသူ) က ကျွန်းတစ်ကျွန်းကဲ့သို့ အားထားရာဖြစ်သော ကာဏ္ဏကို သတ်လိုက်သောအခါ ကౌရဝတို့လည်း ထိုနည်းတူ စိတ်လွဲလျား၍ မိမိတို့ကိုယ်ကို မထိန်းနိုင်ကြတော့။
