अकीर्ति चापि भूतानि कथयिष्यन्ति तेडव्ययाम् । सम्भावितस्य चाकीर्तिर्मिरणादतिरिच्यते,तथा सब लोग तेरी बहुत कालतक रहनेवाली अपकीर्तिका भी कथन करेंगे और माननीय पुरुषके लिये अपकीर्ति मरणसे भी बढ़कर है
akīrtiṃ cāpi bhūtāni kathayiṣyanti te 'vyayām | sambhāvitasya cākīrtir maraṇād atiricyate ||
သဉ္ဇယက ပြောသည်– «သတ္တဝါတို့သည်လည်း သင်၏ မပျောက်မရှား အရှက်ကိရ်တိကို ပြောဆိုကြလိမ့်မည်။ ဂုဏ်သိက္ခာဖြင့် ချီးမြှောက်ခံရသူအတွက် အရှက်ကိရ်တိသည် သေခြင်းထက်ပင် ဆိုးရွားသည်»။
संजय उवाच
For a person of established honor, enduring public disgrace is portrayed as more painful than death; therefore one should not abandon righteous duty out of fear, since cowardice brings lasting infamy.
On the battlefield setting of Bhīṣma Parva, the discourse emphasizes the social-ethical consequences of withdrawing from combat: people will remember and repeat the warrior’s disgrace for a long time, undermining his honored status.
