Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda/Vinata-putra in a didactic section)
Dosha: Vata
Concept: Prodromal discernment (pūrvarūpa) and the ethical-physiological link between overconsumption (atibhojana) and suffering; moderation as preventive wisdom.
Vedantic Theme: Aparigraha/saṃyama as supportive of sattva: restraint in intake reduces bodily turbulence that veils clarity.
Application: Treat early signs seriously; avoid overeating and heavy foods; adopt measured diet and rest to prevent progression of śvāsa.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.150.4 (stomach-origin); Garuda Purana 1.150.7 (full symptom expression)
This verse frames early symptoms—heart/flank pain, prāṇa moving in reverse, and abdominal distension—as warnings, implying that timely restraint (especially in diet) prevents worsening.
By naming prāṇa-vilomatā (contrary movement of the vital wind) alongside ānāha (distension/obstruction), the verse links disordered prāṇa-flow with digestive blockage and systemic discomfort.
Practice dietary moderation, avoid overeating, and treat persistent chest-side pain with bloating or reflux-like upward movement as a signal to rest, simplify food, and seek competent medical guidance.
