According to Śrīla Śrīdhara Svāmī, the inauspicious sign in the sky was the appearance of a halo around the sun, on the earth there were small earthquakes, and in outer space there was an unnatural redness on the horizon. These and other, similar omens were impossible to counteract, because they were personally arranged by Lord Kṛṣṇa.
This verse describes extraordinary portents appearing in heaven, earth, and the sky, indicating an impending, divinely ordained turning point—here, the conclusion of the Yadu dynasty’s earthly pastimes.
After observing the great omens, Kṛṣṇa addressed the assembled Yadus in Sudharmā to guide them regarding the imminent developments that were about to unfold.
The verse models alertness and sober reflection—recognizing signals of change and seeking wise, dharmic guidance rather than ignoring reality or acting impulsively.
