काष्ठलोष्टपाषाणलोहदण्डरज्जुद्रव्याणामन्यतमेन दुःखमशोणितमुत्पादयतश्चतुर्विंशतिपणो दण्डः शोणितोत्पादने द्विगुणः अन्यत्र दुष्टशोणितात् ॥ कZ_०३.१९.१२ ॥
kāṣṭha-loṣṭa-pāṣāṇa-loha-daṇḍa-rajju-dravyāṇām anyatamena duḥkham aśoṇitam utpādayataś caturviṃśati-paṇo daṇḍaḥ śoṇitotpādane dviguṇaḥ anyatra duṣṭa-śoṇitāt
If, with any among wood, clod, stone, iron, staff, rope, or similar implements, one causes pain without drawing blood, the fine is 24 paṇas. If blood is drawn, the fine is doubled—except where the bleeding is from diseased/tainted blood.
To avoid over-penalizing when bleeding is not proportionate to force used (e.g., pre-existing condition), improving fairness and reducing disputes.
