नान्तःप्रज्ञं न बहिष्प्रज्ञं नोभयतःप्रज्ञं न प्रज्ञानघनं न प्रज्ञं नाप्रज्ञम् । अदृष्टमव्यवहार्यमग्राह्यमलक्षणम् अचिन्त्यमव्यपदेश्यमेकात्मप्रत्ययसारं प्रपञ्चोपशमं शान्तं शिवमद्वैतं चतुर्थं मन्यन्ते स आत्मा स विज्ञेयः ॥७॥

IAST Transliteration

nāntaḥprajñaṃ na bahiṣprajñaṃ nobhayataḥprajñaṃ na prajñānaghanaṃ na prajñaṃ nāprajñam | adṛṣṭam avyavahāryam agrāhyam alakṣaṇam acintyam avyapadeśyam ekātmapratyayasāraṃ prapañcopaśamaṃ śāntaṃ śivaṃ advaitaṃ caturthaṃ manyante sa ātmā sa vijñeyaḥ ||7||

Translation

[Turīya] bukan yang sedar akan batin, bukan yang sedar akan lahir, dan bukan juga yang sedar akan kedua-duanya; bukan gumpalan padat kesedaran; bukan sedar, bukan tidak sedar. Ia tidak terlihat, tidak menjadi urusan transaksi, tidak dapat digenggam, tanpa tanda pengenal; tidak terfikirkan, tidak terungkapkan; intinya ialah kepastian tentang Diri Yang Esa. Ia adalah lenyapnya pengembangan fenomena, damai, suci-berkat, tidak-dual. Inilah yang mereka sebut Yang Keempat; itulah Ātman; itulah yang harus diketahui.

Academic Translation

[Turīya is] not that which is conscious of the internal, not that which is conscious of the external, not that which is conscious of both; not a compact mass of consciousness; not conscious, not unconscious. It is unseen, not an object of transaction, ungraspable, without distinguishing mark, unthinkable, indescribable; its essence is the certitude of the one Self; it is the cessation of phenomenal proliferation, peaceful, auspicious, non-dual. This they consider the Fourth; that is the Self; that is to be known.
