Type: kshetra
Scene: A devotee, freed from the dark ‘road of Time,’ offers a vow before Śaṅkara; the liṅga is consecrated by name ‘Mahākāla,’ with Kāla’s noose broken and a radiant aura around the liṅga.
Śiva, as Mahākāla, transcends Time and death; devotion to him grants release from fear and mortality’s bondage.
A Mahākāla-named liṅga is being established and glorified; the verse provides an etymological/legendary basis for its fame.
It primarily institutes the sacred name “Mahākāla” for the liṅga, indicating it as a worship-worthy, fear-dispelling shrine.
