Praṇava-Māhātmya and the Twofold Mantra (Sūkṣma–Sthūla) in Śaiva Sādhanā

FAQs

It warns that when people adopt a coarse, tamasic “dharma,” they fall into untruth, impurity, and cruelty—states that strengthen pāśa (bondage) and obstruct the soul’s movement toward Shiva (Pati) and liberation.

Linga-worship emphasizes inner and outer śauca (purity), satya (truth), and dayā (compassion). This verse highlights the opposite tendencies, implying that true devotion to Saguna Shiva must transform conduct, not remain merely external.

Adopt purifying disciplines aligned with Shiva worship—Tripuṇḍra/bhasma with a pure life, japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and vows of satya and ahiṃsā—so the mind turns from tamas toward Shiva-centered clarity.
