kārtike māsi saṃprāpte sarvāndevānyajedbudhaḥ | dānena tapasā homairjapena niyamena ca
Apabila bulan Kārttika tiba, orang bijaksana hendaklah memuja semua dewa—melalui sedekah (dāna), tapa (tapas), homa (persembahan api), japa (ulangan mantra), serta niyama (disiplin dan pantang).
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Significance: Kārttika is presented as a universal worship-season: intensified sādhana (dāna, tapas, homa, japa, niyama) purifies the bound soul (paśu) and prepares it for Śiva’s grace.
Role: teaching
Offering: naivedya
It elevates Kārtika as a sacred period for concentrated sādhana: generosity, self-restraint, ritual worship, and mantra-japa—acts that purify the soul (paśu) and orient it toward Shiva (Pati) through disciplined living.
Although it mentions worship of ‘all the gods,’ in a Shaiva reading this harmonizes with Linga-worship: devas are honored within Shiva’s cosmic hierarchy, while devotion culminates in Saguna Shiva as the supreme Lord worshiped through the Linga.
Perform japa (especially Panchakshara—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), observe niyamas/vratas, offer homa where appropriate, and complement worship with dana (charity) and tapas (measured austerity).
