Bāṇa’s Renewed Engagement in Battle
Lord Shiva (issuing a command within the battle narrative of the Yuddhakhaṇḍa)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
The verse highlights Śiva as the supreme regulator (Pati) who directs the cosmic order: when divine will is revealed, the wise relinquish pride and withdraw from destructive conflict, returning to a dharmic life.
In Saguna worship, Śiva is approached as the personal Lord who commands, protects, and corrects. This verse reflects that living under Śiva’s ājñā (command) is itself devotion—aligning one’s actions with the Lord symbolized by the Liṅga.
A practical takeaway is to cultivate niyama and surrender through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), mentally offering one’s anger and competitiveness into Śiva, and choosing restraint (nivṛtti) over escalation.
