Genealogy and Nature
etatsamastaṃ sarahasyamadya bravīhi me brahmasutaprasādāt | skaṃdānmayā vai viditaṃ hi samyak maheśaputrādamitāvabodhāt
Narada (in a request within the Rudrasaṃhitā narrative, acknowledging instruction received from Skanda/Kartikeya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
The verse highlights that true Shaiva understanding is not merely information but a “rahasya” received through grace and proper transmission—knowledge ripens through the Lord’s lineage of teachers and the devotee’s receptivity.
By stressing “sa-rahasya” (the inner meaning), it points to Saguna worship—such as Linga-pūjā—as a doorway to realizing Shiva’s deeper truth, where outer ritual is completed by inner comprehension and devotion.
The practical takeaway is to approach Shaiva practice with guru-guided instruction: perform Shiva worship with mantra (especially the Panchākṣarī, Om Namaḥ Śivāya) while seeking the inner meaning through disciplined listening (śravaṇa) and contemplation (manana).
