Tripura Dīkṣā: Prescriptive Procedure
Chapter on the Ordinance of Initiation
Daitya (a demon, speaking in dialogue within the Yuddhakhaṇḍa narrative as narrated by Suta Goswami)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
It highlights satya (truthfulness) and ājñā-pālana (faithful adherence to rightful command) as marks of inner discipline—qualities that, in Shaiva thought, purify the pashu (bound soul) and prepare it for Shiva’s grace.
Linga-worship emphasizes surrender and alignment with Shiva’s will; this vow of not transgressing an आदेश (command) mirrors the devotee’s commitment to follow śaiva-niyamas (Shaiva disciplines) while approaching Saguna Shiva through ritual and devotion.
A practical takeaway is vrata-like resolve: daily japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with a firm sankalpa to follow dharma and truth, supported by simple Shaiva observances like Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and rudrāksha where appropriate.
