Hymn of Praise by the Devas
Devastuti
Suta Goswami (narrating the Shiva Purana account to the sages, conveying the Vedic conclusion about Shiva’s accessibility through bhakti)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Doctrinal statement: mere brahmajñāna (as intellectual attainment) is unstable without Śiva’s kṛpā; Śiva is ‘bhakti-gamya’—approached through devotion, culminating in grace.
Significance: Encourages pilgrims to prioritize bhakti and surrender over pride in learning; frames darśana as grace-responsive rather than merit-only.
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
Offering: dhupa
It asserts that Shiva is not reached by dry intellectual attainment alone; the Vedas affirm that sincere bhakti, supported by Shiva’s grace, is the reliable means to realize and approach Him.
Because Shiva is declared ‘bhakti-gamya’ (reachable by devotion), Saguna worship—such as Linga-puja with love, surrender, and reverence—becomes a direct, Veda-approved approach to the Supreme Pati.
Emphasize bhakti-centered practice: japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and heartfelt Linga worship; let knowledge be guided and softened by devotion rather than pride.
