द्वन्द्वयुद्धवर्णनम् / Description of the Duel-Combats
इति श्रीशिवमहापुराणे द्वितीयायां रुद्रसंहितायां पञ्चमे युद्धखंडे जलंधरोपाख्याने विशे षयुद्धवर्णनं नामैकविंशतितमोऽध्यायः
iti śrīśivamahāpurāṇe dvitīyāyāṃ rudrasaṃhitāyāṃ pañcame yuddhakhaṃḍe jalaṃdharopākhyāne viśe ṣayuddhavarṇanaṃ nāmaikaviṃśatitamo'dhyāyaḥ
Demikianlah, dalam Śrī Śiva Mahāpurāṇa, Buku Kedua—Rudra Saṃhitā—pada bahagian kelima, Yuddha Khaṇḍa, dalam kisah Jalandhara, berakhirlah bab kedua puluh satu yang bertajuk “Huraian Pertempuran Istimewa”.
Suta Goswami (traditional Purāṇic colophon context, narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Sthala Purana: Colophon marking the closure of the ‘Jalandhara-upākhyāna’ battle description chapter; not a sthala-purāṇa of a specific jyotirliṅga.
Mantra: iti śrīśivamahāpurāṇe dvitīyāyāṃ rudrasaṃhitāyāṃ pañcame yuddhakhaṃḍe jalaṃdharopākhyāne viśeṣayuddhavarṇanaṃ nāmaikaviṃśatitamo'dhyāyaḥ
This is a concluding colophon marking the completion of a chapter; spiritually, it signals that the battle narrative is to be received as instruction—where Shiva’s supremacy (Pati) and the limitation of prideful power are highlighted through the Jalandhara episode.
Though it is not a direct worship-injunction, it situates the listener within the Rudra Saṃhitā’s devotional frame: the battles of Saguna Shiva are recounted to strengthen bhakti and trust in Shiva’s protective and liberating grace, which culminates in Linga-centered devotion elsewhere in the Purāṇa.
No specific rite is prescribed in this colophon; the implied practice is śravaṇa (devotional listening/recitation) of Shiva Purana chapters, ideally accompanied by remembrance of the Panchākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
