(Devastuti) — Hymn/Praise of the Devas
Suta Goswami (narrating a hymn of praise addressed to Lord Shiva within the Yuddhakhaṇḍa context)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: No direct jyotirliṅga; the verse stresses Śiva’s immanence as the coordinating mind (manas), as abhayadāna (fearlessness), as purifying water, and as amṛta (life-giving immortality)—a grace-centered theology of protection and purification.
Significance: Frames Śiva as the giver of abhayam and amṛta: devotional reliance is said to reduce fear, cleanse impurities, and orient the paśu toward liberation through anugraha.
Type: stotra
Role: nurturing
Offering: naivedya
The verse presents Shiva as the indwelling Lord (Pati) who empowers cognition (mind and senses) and grants abhaya—freedom from fear—culminating in amṛta, the deathless state associated with liberation.
By praising Shiva through universal functions—mind, purification, fearlessness, immortality—the devotee approaches Saguna Shiva (often worshiped as the Linga) as the accessible form of the same supreme reality who inwardly sustains all beings.
Practice japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with a prayer for abhaya, and contemplate Shiva as the inner witness guiding mind and senses; optionally accompany with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) as a reminder of purification.
