(Devastuti) — Hymn/Praise of the Devas
Suta Goswami (traditional Purāṇic colophon indicating chapter closure, narrated in Sūta’s recitation to the sages)
Sthala Purana: Colophon only: marks the closure of ‘Devastuti’ chapter within Yuddhakhaṇḍa; no specific sthala narrative.
Significance: Textual tīrtha: śravaṇa/paṭhana of the chapter is treated as meritorious in Purāṇic tradition, functioning like a ‘manasa-yātrā’.
This is a concluding colophon marking the completion of the “Devastuti” chapter, emphasizing that praise (stuti) of Pati (Śiva) is a recognized devotional means for receiving grace and protection in the Purāṇic tradition.
By framing an entire chapter as “Devastuti,” it highlights Saguna upāsanā—devotional glorification of Śiva with attributes—commonly expressed through hymns offered before the Liṅga or to Śiva’s manifest forms to invoke anugraha (divine favor).
A practical takeaway is regular recitation of Śiva-stuti as part of daily worship—ideally with japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” and, where appropriate, traditional supports like bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and rudrākṣa.
