दैत्या ऊचुः । यदि प्रसन्नो देवेश यदि देयो वरस्त्वया । अवध्यत्वं च सर्वेषां सर्वभूतेषु देहिनः
daityā ūcuḥ | yadi prasanno deveśa yadi deyo varastvayā | avadhyatvaṃ ca sarveṣāṃ sarvabhūteṣu dehinaḥ
Para Daitya berkata: “Jika Engkau berkenan, wahai Tuhan para dewa, dan jika Engkau hendak mengurniakan anugerah, kurniakanlah kepada kami ketidakbolehan dibunuh—agar dalam kalangan semua makhluk berjasad, dalam segala jenis makhluk, tiada sesiapa dapat membunuh kami.”

The Daityas approach the personal Lord (Saguna Shiva) as Deveśa, the giver of boons. Linga-worship likewise approaches Shiva as accessible grace (anugraha), but the Purana repeatedly contrasts selfish boon-seeking with devotion aimed at purification and dharma.
