Concise Teaching on Liṅga Worship / Śiva-arcana-vidhi
अर्घ्यं दत्त्वा तु पुष्पाणि पादयोस्सुविकीर्य च । प्रणिपत्य च देवेशमात्मनाराधयेच्छिवम्
arghyaṃ dattvā tu puṣpāṇi pādayossuvikīrya ca | praṇipatya ca deveśamātmanārādhayecchivam
Sesudah mempersembahkan arghya, lalu menaburkan bunga dengan lembut di kaki-Nya, hendaklah ia bersujud; demikianlah, dengan segenap diri, ia menyembah Śiva, Tuhan para dewa.
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva’s worship-method to the sages at Naimisharanya within the Rudrasaṃhitā context)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Establishes the basic upacāras of Śiva-pūjā (arghya, puṣpa, praṇipāta) that purify the paśu and dispose it toward Śiva’s anugraha (grace).
Offering: pushpa
It teaches that true Śiva-upāsanā is both outer and inner: respectful offerings and reverent prostration culminate in worship “with the whole self,” aligning the devotee’s mind and ego toward Pati (Śiva) for grace and liberation.
The verse describes classic saguna worship—honoring the Lord’s feet with arghya and flowers and offering pranama—which is directly applied in Liṅga-pūjā as well, where the Liṅga is treated as Śiva’s living presence and approached with humility and devotion.
A simple pūjā-krama: offer arghya, place or strew flowers at Śiva’s feet, then perform full prostration; inwardly, worship with focused mind and surrender—often accompanied by japa such as the Pañcākṣarī mantra ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya").
