Tattva Level: pashu
Significance: Emphasizes the practitioner’s need to overcome impurity and negligence; in Siddhānta terms, ritual purification addresses the soul’s obscuration (tirodhāna) by preparing a fit medium for grace.
It teaches that outer purity supports inner purity: mantra and careful preparation of water make the offering fit for Shiva, aligning the worshipper’s mind with śuddhi (purification) and devotion toward Pati (Lord Shiva).
In Linga worship, sanctified water is central for abhiṣeka; this verse prescribes how the sādhaka prepares and purifies that water so the offering to Saguna Shiva is ritually and mentally consecrated.
Mantra-japa while preparing tīrtha (consecrated water) and filtering it through a clean white cloth—an act of both physical cleansing and mindful preparation before Shiva abhiṣeka.
