Dakṣa’s Means for Increasing Progeny
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadyojāta
It shows that even Brahmā, the cosmic creator, depends on a higher divine ordinance for successful creation—pointing to Shaiva Siddhanta’s view that all functions (including creation) unfold under the supremacy of Pati (the Lord) rather than autonomous egoic power.
The verse sets the narrative premise: the creator seeks the ‘upāya’ (means), which in Shaiva framing ultimately comes from Shiva’s grace and prescribed disciplines. Such grace is commonly approached through Saguna worship—especially Shiva’s iconic presence as the Linga—where devotees align their action with the Lord’s will.
This specific verse is a request for instruction rather than a direct ritual injunction; the practical takeaway is humility and seeking the proper upāya through Shiva-oriented devotion and mantra-discipline (commonly expressed in the Purana via japa and worship), awaiting the Lord’s guidance for fruitful action.
