Summary Description of Satī’s Narrative
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Significance: Śravaṇa (devotional hearing) of Śiva-kathā is presented as pāpa-kṣaya (destruction of demerit) and inner purification, preparing the paśu for Śiva’s anugraha.
The verse affirms the Shaiva principle of śravaṇa (devotional hearing): listening to Shiva-related sacred narration purifies the mind and burns accumulated pāpa, preparing the seeker for bhakti and liberation.
It highlights that contact with Shiva through saguna means—scriptural narration of Shiva’s līlā, names, and glories—has purificatory power; such purified devotion naturally supports Linga-worship and steady remembrance of Shiva.
Regular śravaṇa of Shiva Purana (especially on Mondays or Mahashivratri), followed by japa of the Panchakshara ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") and simple Linga-pūjā, is the practical takeaway implied by the promised fruit of hearing.
