Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Significance: Charity to bhikṣus is framed as a conduit of grace (anugraha): generosity purifies the giver and supports renunciant life oriented to liberation.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
Offering: naivedya
It presents dāna (charitable giving) and utsava (auspicious celebration) as outward signs of an inwardly purified, prasanna (serene) mind—supporting dharma and creating a sattvic atmosphere conducive to Shiva-bhakti.
In Shaiva practice, honoring guests, ascetics, and the needy is treated as service offered to Saguna Shiva present in all beings; such dharmic conduct becomes an indirect but potent form of worship that prepares one for formal Linga-pūjā.
Practice dāna with a calm, grateful mind—especially on Shiva-related observance days—alongside simple Shiva remembrance (smaraṇa) or japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” making charity an offering rather than mere transaction.
