Description of Menā’s Attainment of Boons
and the worship leading to Umā’s advent
Parvati
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
The verse praises the divine as the liberating cause that severs pasha (bondage) for yatis, emphasizing Shaiva Siddhanta’s core: liberation arises through the Lord’s grace that cuts bonds, while devotion (bhakti) expresses itself as humble inability to fully praise that power.
Parvati’s plea is directed to the accessible, gracious Saguna Lord who can be praised and approached for boons; in Linga-worship this same grace is invoked—Shiva as Pati responds to devotion, granting both worldly aims and the higher fruit of bond-release.
A practical takeaway is prayerful japa and worship with the intent of bond-cutting—reciting the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), offering bilva leaves, and meditating on Shiva’s grace as the power that removes bondage and purifies tendencies toward harm.
