अनरण्यसुता–पिप्पलादचरितम् / The Episode of Anaraṇya’s Daughter and Sage Pippalāda
पद्मो वाच । गच्छ दूरं गच्छ दूरं पापिष्ठस्त्वं नराधिप । मां चेत्पश्यसि कामेन सद्यो नष्टो भविष्यसि
padmo vāca | gaccha dūraṃ gaccha dūraṃ pāpiṣṭhastvaṃ narādhipa | māṃ cetpaśyasi kāmena sadyo naṣṭo bhaviṣyasi
Padmā berkata: “Pergilah jauh—pergilah jauh, wahai raja. Engkau paling berdosa. Jika engkau memandangku dengan nafsu, seketika engkau akan binasa.”
Padma
Tattva Level: pashu
It highlights kāma (lust) as a binding force (pāśa) that causes immediate spiritual and moral downfall, urging restraint and dharmic conduct—key to purification and fitness for Shiva’s grace.
Linga/Saguṇa-Śiva worship is grounded in inner purity and self-mastery; this warning underscores that uncontrolled desire disrupts the sādhaka’s steadiness, making devotion, japa, and worship fruitless until the mind is restrained.
Practice sense-restraint with Shiva-japa (especially the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and maintain purity of intention; as a practical takeaway, combine daily japa with simple discipline (avoid lustful gaze/thought) to prevent immediate decline.
