Devas’ Hymn, Nandikeśvara’s Petition, and Śiva’s Rising from Samādhi
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It identifies kāma (desire) and krodha (anger) as key forms of pāśa—bondage that agitates the mind and obstructs devotion. Shiva’s command emphasizes inner discipline as the foundation for grace and spiritual progress.
Linga/Saguna Shiva worship is not merely external ritual; it requires a purified inner state. By renouncing desire and anger and adhering to Shiva’s instruction, the devotee makes the worship fit to bear fruit—steadiness, bhakti, and Shiva’s anugraha (grace).
Practice japa with the Panchākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) while observing restraint over sense-impulses; support it with sāttvic conduct and, where traditional, Tripuṇḍra bhasma and Rudrākṣa as reminders of vigilance against kāma and krodha.
