The Manifestation/Origin of the Rāmeśvara Liṅga
राम उवाच । स्वामिञ्छंभो महादेव सर्वदा भक्तवत्सल । पाहि मां शरणापन्नं त्वद्भक्तं दीनमानसम्
rāma uvāca | svāmiñchaṃbho mahādeva sarvadā bhaktavatsala | pāhi māṃ śaraṇāpannaṃ tvadbhaktaṃ dīnamānasam
Rāma berkata: “Wahai Tuan Śambhu, wahai Mahādeva, yang sentiasa mengasihi para bhakta-Mu, lindungilah aku. Aku telah berlindung pada-Mu; aku bhakta-Mu, berhati hina dan dirundung duka.”

This verse models śaraṇāgati (taking refuge) in Pati—Lord Shiva—as the compassionate protector of the devotee. In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, liberation and protection arise through Shiva’s grace (anugraha) when the bound soul (paśu) humbly turns to Him with devotion.
Rāma addresses Shiva by personal, devotional names—Śambhu and Mahādeva—highlighting Saguna worship where the Lord is approached as a merciful, responsive deity. In Kotirudra context (Jyotirlinga-focused), such refuge-prayers are especially aligned with Linga worship as a concrete focal point for surrender and receiving Shiva’s protection.
The takeaway is a simple refuge-prayer (śaraṇa-mantra style) offered with humility—ideally alongside Panchakshara japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and Linga-abhiṣeka, cultivating a surrendered heart rather than mere external ritual.
