The Determination of Śiva as the Meaning of Praṇava
Suta Goswami (traditional Purāṇic colophon convention, concluding narration to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
This is a colophon marking the completion of a chapter; it highlights that saṃnyāsa (renunciation) is treated as a disciplined, scripturally guided path toward mokṣa under Śiva’s lordship (Pati) in Shaiva understanding.
By closing a chapter on saṃnyāsa-vidhi within the Kailāsa-saṃhitā, it frames renunciation as integrated with Śiva-bhakti and Śiva-upāsanā—renouncing bondage (pāśa) while remaining oriented to Śiva as the supreme refuge, often expressed through Linga worship and mantra.
The verse itself is a chapter-ending marker, but it points to the broader topic of saṃnyāsa-vidhi—typically involving disciplined conduct, meditation, and Śiva-oriented practices such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as taught in the Purāṇic Shaiva tradition.
