शरबन्धनम् (The Binding by Arrows) / Indrajit’s Illusory Assault and the Vanaras’ Consolation
एवमुक्तास्तुतेसर्वेराक्षसाःकूटयोधिनः ।।6.46.25।।परंविस्मयामाजग्मुःकर्मणातेनहर्षिताः ।
evam uktās tu te sarve rākṣasāḥ kūṭayodhinaḥ | paraṃ vismayam ājagmuḥ karmaṇā tena harṣitāḥ || 6.46.25 ||
Mendengar demikian, semua rākṣasa—para pejuang penuh tipu daya—terperanjat dengan kehairanan besar, lalu bersukacita atas perbuatan itu.
Indrajith having spoken in that way to the Rakshasas, all of them were highly amazed by the action of Indrajith and went laughing.
Dharma is clarified by moral labeling: the text marks deceit in warfare as ethically compromised, showing how collective joy can form around adharma when victory is pursued without righteousness.
The rākṣasa host, hearing Indrajit’s boast, becomes amazed and pleased, taking the apparent disabling of Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa as decisive.
The virtue emphasized by contrast is integrity—victory that depends on deception is portrayed as spiritually and ethically inferior.
