Rama–Sugriva Alliance and Fire-Rite of Friendship
ayaṁ rāmo mahāprājñaḥ samprāpto dṛḍha-vikramaḥ |
lakṣmaṇena saha bhrātrā rāmo ’yaṁ satya-vikramaḥ || 4.5.2 ||
'O Lord! that you are eager to have friendship with me, who is a monkey is a great honour and is extremely beneficial to me.
Dharma here is linked to satya (truth): Rāma’s strength is portrayed as truth-governed power—valor that serves righteousness rather than ego or conquest.
Hanumān, acting as Sugrīva’s envoy, introduces Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa and establishes Rāma’s credibility and moral stature before friendship is formed.
Rāma’s virtue of satya (truthfulness and integrity) combined with steady courage (dṛḍha-vikrama) is emphasized as the basis for trust.
