Vali’s Final Counsel and the Succession Charge
'O Sugriva! you ought not to accuse me of exiling you, and wresting your wife. Mymind was deluded by the force of fate that controls one's future.
The verse raises the Dharma-question of moral responsibility: Vāli asks Sugrīva to distinguish intentional wrongdoing from error and delusion, and to temper judgment with truth-seeking and compassion.
As Vāli lies dying, he addresses Sugrīva, attempting to explain his past conduct and to reduce Sugrīva’s resentment.
Kṣamā (forgiveness) is urged in Sugrīva, while Vāli’s self-reflection (ātma-parīkṣā) appears as he acknowledges delusion and fate’s pressure.
