Sugriva’s Account of Enmity and Appeal to Rama
'I was obstructed by wicked Sugriva who forgot his brotherly love and was desiring the kingdom, which belongs to me.'
The verse condemns adharmic ambition: craving power while abandoning truth and familial loyalty is portrayed as a moral failure with social consequences.
Vāli interprets the sealed cave and subsequent events as Sugrīva’s attempt to seize the kingdom by excluding him.
Concern for righteousness in rulership—Vāli frames kingship as tied to loyalty and rightful conduct, not mere acquisition.
