The Queens Summoned; Rama’s Leave-Taking and Dasaratha’s Collapse
evam ukto nṛpatinā rāmo dharmabhṛtāṃ varaḥ |
pratyuvācāñjaliṃ kṛtvā pitaraṃ vākyakovidaḥ ||
You will remain the lord of this earth for a thousand years to come, O king! As for me, I will dwell in the forest. Do not deviate from truth on my account.
Dharma is shown through respectful conduct: even amid crisis, Rāma maintains maryādā (proper decorum) toward his father and responds without arrogance.
After Daśaratha’s plea, the narrative turns to Rāma’s formal, respectful response.
Rāma’s humility and disciplined speech—wisdom expressed through courtesy and restraint.
