haribhaktikathāmuktvā khyāyikāṃ śṛṇuyācca yaḥ | tasya saṃdarśanādeva pūto bhavati mānavaḥ

Primary Rasa: karuna

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: forest

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"In a quiet āśrama clearing, a storyteller-devotee sits on a kusa mat beneath a flowering tree, reciting Hari-bhakti tales to attentive listeners. A passerby, merely catching sight of the kathā-vaktā, feels a visible softening—dust-like darkness lifting from the heart—while the air glows with the subtle sanctity of spoken devotion.","primary_figures":["Hari-bhakti kathā speaker","listeners (men and women, sages and householders)","passerby receiving purification by darśana"],"setting":"Āśrama or temple courtyard with low platform, palm-leaf manuscripts, tulasī pot nearby, deer and birds at the edge, incense and water pot.","lighting_mood":"forest dappled","color_palette":["sage green","warm ochre","lotus pink","smoke gray","sunlit gold"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: central kathā-vaktā with gold halo, manuscript in hand, listeners in semicircle; ornate border with lotus and conch motifs; gold leaf highlights on rays of sanctity emanating from speech; rich reds/greens and temple-like decorative elements even in an āśrama setting.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: refined pastoral āśrama scene with delicate foliage, soft shadows, and gentle facial expressions; the kathā circle composed with lyrical balance; subtle glow around the speaker; distant stream and hills to suggest serenity.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, stylized tree canopy, speaker and listeners with characteristic eye shapes; warm red/yellow/green palette; patterned background suggesting sacred vibration of kathā; decorative borders like temple murals.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: narrative circle framed by intricate floral borders; lotuses and peacocks around a small Hari shrine; deep blue accents behind the speaker to suggest divine presence; symmetrical arrangement of listeners and hanging lamps."}

FAQs

It teaches that both reciting and hearing narratives of devotion to Hari are spiritually potent, and that association with such devotees (even simple darśana) transmits purification.

The verse elevates holy company: meeting those engaged in devotional speech and attentive listening is portrayed as inherently purifying, encouraging respectful association with the devout.

No explicit tirtha or geographic site is mentioned here; the “place of purification” is effectively the devotee’s presence (darśana), highlighting personal sanctity over location.
