Yudhiṣṭhira

Concept: Sacred geography is worthy of detailed śravaṇa; attentive hearing itself is a devotional act that ripens faith and merit.

Application: Ask for depth rather than slogans in spiritual life—seek detailed guidance, study, and lived context; cultivate patient listening to kathā.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: city

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"In a quiet hermitage court, Yudhiṣṭhira sits with folded hands, leaning forward in earnest inquiry as the sage prepares to speak. In the background, Kāśī is hinted like a vision—Ganga ghats, temple spires, and lamp-lit steps—suggesting the city’s pull on the listener’s heart.","primary_figures":["Yudhiṣṭhira","Nārada (or the addressed muni as sage figure)","attendant sages"],"setting":"Forest āśrama with a low seat of kuśa grass, manuscripts, and a distant visionary vignette of Vārāṇasī ghats along the Ganga.","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["river blue","lamp amber","sandalwood beige","maroon","smoke gray"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Yudhiṣṭhira in royal yet humble attire questioning a radiant sage; behind them a stylized Kāśī panorama with Ganga ghats and golden temple towers; gold leaf on lamps and halos, rich reds/greens, ornate arch border, jewel-like detailing on garments.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate dialogue scene under a tree canopy; delicate expressions of eagerness and calm; faint, dreamy Kāśī skyline across a blue ribbon of Ganga; cool palette with warm lamp points, fine brushwork and lyrical spacing.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: frontal, iconic figures—Yudhiṣṭhira in respectful pose, sage in teaching mudrā; simplified Kāśī ghats as patterned bands; bold outlines, earthy reds/yellows with green accents, temple-wall compositional symmetry.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: narrative framed by ornate floral borders; central dialogue with a decorative Ganga band below, rows of lamps and temple silhouettes above; deep indigo ground with gold and white detailing, peacocks near the border to evoke sacred festivity."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"narrative","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"serene","sound_elements":["tanpura drone","soft bells","distant river flow","page rustle of manuscripts","evening aarti murmurs"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: vārāṇasyāśca = vārāṇasyāḥ + ca; saṃkṣepātkathitam = saṃkṣepāt + kathitam.

FAQs

He asks the sage to expand the earlier brief account and explain the sacred glory (māhātmya) of Vārāṇasī in detail.

It signals a transition into a fuller “māhātmya” (glorification) passage centered on a tīrtha—Vārāṇasī—typical of Purāṇic sacred-geography narration.

The verse models respectful inquiry: sincere questioning and attentive listening to a sage’s teaching are presented as a means to inner satisfaction and understanding.
