Unspecified (contextual: a narrator listing śrāddha offerings and their durations of pitṛ-tṛpti)

Concept: Different offerings produce different durations of pitṛ-tṛpti; the rite is framed as a measurable, consequential act.

Application: Treat inherited duties (family care, remembrance, charity) as structured practices; where literal offerings are not appropriate, offer sanctioned substitutes (anna, tila, water, mantra) per one’s sampradāya.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A ritual table displays carefully arranged offerings labeled by tradition—boar, rare game, and other items—while the officiant gestures as if teaching the gradations of merit. Above, a subtle celestial register shows pitṛs seated in calm rows, their satisfaction depicted as a gentle glow that lengthens like a measured timeline.","primary_figures":["brāhmaṇa teacher-priest","gṛhastha patron","pitṛs (subtle, seated)"],"setting":"Instructional śrāddha setting—courtyard with ritual diagram, palm-leaf notes, and offering vessels; a didactic composition emphasizing enumeration.","lighting_mood":"golden dawn","color_palette":["antique gold","copper brown","ivory","indigo","leaf green"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: didactic śrāddha tableau with priest pointing to offerings on a low altar; pitṛs in an upper band with gold halos; heavy gold leaf on borders and vessels; rich reds/greens, ornate jewelry, symmetrical layout, traditional South Indian decorative motifs.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: a teacher-priest instructs a patron beside a small altar; fine linework on vessels and textiles; pitṛs appear as faint luminous figures in the sky; cool indigo background with soft dawn gradient and delicate foliage.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, flat pigments; priest and patron in stylized poses; offerings simplified into iconic shapes; pitṛs in a horizontal celestial strip; dominant warm reds and yellows with green accents, temple-wall aesthetic.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: ornate border of lotuses and vines framing a central ritual altar; upper register with small haloed pitṛ figures; deep blue ground with gold detailing; intricate textile patterns on garments and altar cloth."}

FAQs

It states a traditional śrāddha rule: specific food offerings are believed to yield a corresponding duration of satisfaction (tṛpti) for the ancestors (pitṛs).

No. It appears within a ritual-technical listing about śrāddha offerings and their reputed results, not as a universal dietary command.

The ethical emphasis is on fulfilling ancestral duties (pitṛ-ṛṇa) through prescribed rites, highlighting responsibility, gratitude, and continuity of family obligations.
