Go-Māhātmya

विपत्तौ वैश्यवृतिं च कारयेद्द्विजसत्तमः । वैश्यवृत्तिं वणिग्भावं कृषिं चैव तथापरैः

vipattau vaiśyavṛtiṃ ca kārayeddvijasattamaḥ | vaiśyavṛttiṃ vaṇigbhāvaṃ kṛṣiṃ caiva tathāparaiḥ

Pada waktu bencana, yang terbaik dalam kalangan dvija boleh mengambil sara hidup seorang Vaiśya. Dan pekerjaan Vaiśya itu ialah berniaga serta bertani, sebagaimana diajarkan oleh guru-guru yang lain.
