Uncertain from single-verse context (addressing an ṛtvij, i.e., a ritual officiant).

Concept: Dāna (gifting land and cows) is a high dharmic act whose merit can rival even royal sacrifices; auspicious circumstances can concentrate merit ‘today’ as if a Rājasūya were performed.

Application: Practice generosity within one’s means; treat giving (especially sustaining gifts) as a sacred act, not a transaction.

FAQs

It equates the spiritual merit of major charities—especially gifting land and cows—with the merit of a royal Vedic sacrifice (Rājasūya), emphasizing the power of dāna (giving).

In Dharma literature and Purāṇic ethics, these are among the highest forms of giving because they sustain life, livelihood, and religious life (agriculture, nourishment, ritual economy).

That merit is not only gained through grand rituals; sincere, socially sustaining generosity can yield comparable spiritual results.
