Vrata–Dāna Compendium at Puṣkara: Puṣpavāhana’s Account and the Ṣaṣṭhī-vrata Purification Rite
तपसा तस्य तुष्टेन चतुर्वक्त्रेण भारत । कमलं कांचनं दत्तं यथाकामगमं नृप
tapasā tasya tuṣṭena caturvaktreṇa bhārata | kamalaṃ kāṃcanaṃ dattaṃ yathākāmagamaṃ nṛpa
Wahai Bhārata, kerana berkenan akan tapa beliau, Brahmā yang bermuka empat menganugerahkan kepadanya, wahai raja, sekuntum teratai emas, dengannya dia dapat pergi ke mana sahaja menurut kehendaknya.
Pulastya (to Bhīṣma)
Concept: Tapas performed with steadiness yields divine favor and extraordinary capacities; boons are framed as dharmically earned, not случай.
Application: Undertake disciplined practice (vrata-like consistency) and use any ‘powers’—status, wealth, influence—for dharmic ends rather than ego.

Sandhi Resolution Notes: यथाकामगमं is a compound functioning adjectivally; sense ‘yathā-kāma-gamam’. दत्तम् used predicatively (passive sense).
It presents tapas (austerity) as spiritually efficacious: when Brahmā is pleased, he grants a boon symbolized by a golden lotus that enables unrestricted travel (yathākāma-gamana).
“Caturvaktra” is a common epithet of Brahmā, the four-faced creator deity.
Disciplined effort and self-restraint (tapas) are shown as a means to attain higher capacities and divine favor, implying that inner discipline precedes outer power.
