Sandhi Resolution Notes: महाबलो = महाबलः; इंद्रो = इन्द्रः; स व = सः + वै; वरान्स = वरान् + सः; देवेभ्य उत्तमम् = देवेभ्यः + उत्तमम्.
The verse explicitly marks the speaker as Sūta (“sūta uvāca”), indicating a narrator’s transition: he summarizes the outcome (someone destined to become Indra) and then moves the story forward after the boons are granted.
It shows a common Purāṇic motif: divine boons (varas) establish future offices and cosmic roles—here, confirming the rise of a powerful figure to the post of Indra—thereby linking merit, divine sanction, and cosmic governance.
The verse implies that leadership among the Devas is associated with exceptional strength and valor, suggesting that authority is ideally grounded in capability and divine approval rather than mere claim or birth.
