तावद्विलाडयेत्पुत्रं यावत्स्यात्पंचवार्षिकः । शिक्षाबुद्ध्या सदा कांत पुनर्मोहेन पोषयेत्

tāvadvilāḍayetputraṃ yāvatsyātpaṃcavārṣikaḥ | śikṣābuddhyā sadā kāṃta punarmohena poṣayet

Hendaklah seseorang memanjakan dan bermain dengan anak lelakinya hingga berusia lima tahun. Namun selepas itu, wahai kekasih, hendaklah dia dibesarkan dengan niat mendidik dan mengajar, bukan dipelihara lagi kerana keterikatan yang mengelirukan.
