Unspecified (verse presented as a devotional aspiration/prayer within the narrative context)

Concept: Auspicious life and true renown arise from worship of Hṛṣīkeśa through tapas and disciplined observances (niyama).

Application: Adopt a small daily niyama (truthfulness, regulated diet, japa, charity) and explicitly offer it to Viṣṇu; measure ‘success’ by steadiness in practice rather than applause.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: vira

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A devotee stands before a simple altar, palms joined, while a radiant vision of Hṛṣīkeśa appears—calm, blue-hued, holding conch and discus. Around the devotee are symbols of niyama: a water pot, kusa grass, a japa-mālā, and a small lamp, suggesting disciplined worship that yields auspiciousness and true renown.","primary_figures":["Hṛṣīkeśa (Viṣṇu)","devotee/aspirant (unidentified)"],"setting":"A quiet vow-space—either a forest hermitage or a modest shrine with ritual implements arranged neatly.","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["deep indigo","lamp-flame amber","sandalwood beige","vermilion","leaf green"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Hṛṣīkeśa in classic Viṣṇu iconography with gold-leaf halo and ornate crown stands above a kneeling devotee; ritual items (mālā, kalaśa, lamp) in the foreground; rich reds and greens, embossed gold ornaments, gem-studded jewelry, symmetrical shrine arch.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate devotional scene in a hermitage courtyard; soft lamp glow on the devotee’s face; Viṣṇu’s form appears as a gentle vision with delicate shading; cool night palette with warm amber highlights, refined facial features and lyrical foliage.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold-outlined Viṣṇu with conch and discus, large serene eyes; devotee in disciplined posture; flat natural pigments with dominant reds/yellows/greens, temple-wall composition with decorative borders.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central Hṛṣīkeśa figure framed by lotus and floral borders; devotee below with ritual implements; deep blue background with gold detailing, intricate patterns suggesting vrata-niyama orderliness."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"devotional","suggested_raga":"Durga","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"serene","sound_elements":["temple bells","oil-lamp crackle","conch shell (soft)","silence after the final line"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: भवेज्जन्म = भवेत् + जन्म; हृषीकेशस्तपोभिः = हृषीकेशः + तपोभिः; नियमैस्तथा = नियमैः + तथा.

H
Hṛṣīkeśa (Viṣṇu)

FAQs

It expresses a prayer for an auspicious life and reputation grounded in devotion—specifically, worship of Viṣṇu (Hṛṣīkeśa) supported by austerity (tapas) and disciplined observances (niyama).

Bhakti is central because the desired well-being and honor are tied to “ārādhana” (devotional worship) of Hṛṣīkeśa, with tapas and niyama functioning as supportive practices rather than the final goal.

True esteem (yaśas, kīrti) is sought not merely as social status but as a byproduct of righteous living—self-discipline, restraint, and devotion to the divine.
