The Description of the Greatness of the Gaṅgā
Suta (narrating the tirtha-mahatmya discourse as taught in the Narada Purana tradition)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It teaches that even a minimal act of Ganga-sevana, when done with bhakti, yields vast punya—symbolized by heavenly enjoyment comparable to Kāmadhenū’s divine nourishment.
The verse makes devotion the decisive factor: not the quantity of ritual action, but sincere bhakti while honoring the sacred tirtha (Ganga) is presented as what magnifies the spiritual result.
It indirectly reflects kalpa (ritual practice) through the act of taking Ganga-water as a sacred intake (ācaman/gaṇḍūṣa), emphasizing correct sacred usage of tirtha-water within dharmic observance.
