Graha–Ketu–Utpāta Lakṣaṇas: Solar/Lunar Omens, Comets, Eclipses, and Calendar Rules

सौम्यायनं मासषट्कं मृगाद्यं भानुभुक्तितः । अहः सुराणां तद्रा त्रिः कर्काद्यं दक्षिणायनम् ॥ १२५ ॥

saumyāyanaṃ māsaṣaṭkaṃ mṛgādyaṃ bhānubhuktitaḥ | ahaḥ surāṇāṃ tadrā triḥ karkādyaṃ dakṣiṇāyanam || 125 ||

Menurut perjalanan Matahari melalui tanda-tanda zodiak, tempoh enam bulan yang bermula dengan Makara (Capricorn) dan tanda-tanda seterusnya dinamakan saumyāyana, iaitu perjalanan ke utara. Inilah siang bagi para dewa; dan malam yang sepadan ialah tempoh enam bulan yang bermula dengan Karka (Cancer), dikenali sebagai dakṣiṇāyana, perjalanan ke selatan.
