अहंकारश् च महतो जायते मानवर्धनः इन्द्रियाणि ततः पञ्च वक्ष्ये बुद्धिवशानि तु प्रादुर् भवन्ति चान्यानि तथा कर्मवशानि तु //
ahaṃkāraś ca mahato jāyate mānavardhanaḥ indriyāṇi tataḥ pañca vakṣye buddhivaśāni tu prādur bhavanti cānyāni tathā karmavaśāni tu //
Wahai pengembang umat manusia, daripada Mahat (Prinsip Agung) lahir Ahaṅkāra (keakuan). Daripadanya muncul lima indriya; akan aku jelaskan yang berada di bawah kuasa buddhi (akal budi). Keupayaan lain juga termanifest, demikian pula yang berada di bawah kuasa karma (perbuatan).
