Adhyaya 85 — The Gods’ Hymn to the Goddess and the Emergence of Kaushiki; Shumbha Sends His Envoy
Devi models satya (truth): she concedes factual power without conceding moral right. Dharma distinguishes between ‘might’ and ‘right,’ and Devi’s discourse pivots from fact to the binding force of a vow.
Ethical-theological narration within vaṃśānucarita: it teaches that truthfulness and vows govern even divine conflict narratives.
Acknowledging the opponent’s power without fear reflects non-dual steadiness: Shakti is not threatened by worldly dominion. The real battleground is darpa (pride), which Devi will make the criterion.
